CBORD ValuePorts and the New Twenty Dollar Bills

CBORD has been working to provide our customers with programs to update ValuePorts so they accept the new $20 bills recently introduced by the U.S. Treasury. We and other commercial businesses have been somewhat limited by product delivery from the Bill Acceptor manufacturers. Nevertheless, we are now able to offer upgrade programs to our valued customers.
ValuePorts provided by CBORD have been manufactured with three different Bill Acceptors. To know which program will apply to your location, you will need to identify the model of the Bill Acceptor in your ValuePort. The three models involved are: Mars GL-5 (downstack), Mars AE2601 (upstack), Coinco MAG 50 SA (upstack).
If the snout of the Bill Acceptor is about ten inches from the bottom of the ValuePort, then you have a Mars GL-5. If the snout is about four inches from the bottom, then you have one of the other two. To find out which one, open the ValuePort and the Bill Acceptor Compartment. The Bill Magazine on the Mars AE2601 will say Mars. The Coinco is identified at the bottom of the Bill Acceptor itself.
GL-5 Bill Acceptor
We have learned that the Mars GL-5 Bill Acceptor cannot be updated to accept the new $20 bills. This Bill Acceptor, installed on initial ValuePorts produced prior to mid-1999, does not have the optics needed for the Treasury’s newly designed bills. Consequently, we will offer our clients the Mars LE3821 downstack Bill Acceptor for $565 plus shipping. Please contact your Sales Representative to place an order.
You will need to remove the GL-5 and install the new one. You may use the GL-5 Bill Magazine with the new Bill Acceptor. Our Support Group will be pleased to provide telephone assistance on this process. There will be no need to return the GL-5.
Mars AE 2601 and Coinco MAG 50 SA
Both the Mars AE2601 and the Coinco MAG 50 SA Bill Acceptors can be updated to accept the new bills. In both cases the update must be performed at CBORD. To simplify this process for our customers, we will offer advance replacements in exchange for quick return of the original Bill Acceptor of the same type. In accordance with the terms of our agreements, the software update accomplished by the Bill Acceptor exchange will be at no charge, provided the original Bill Acceptor is promptly returned to CBORD.
To arrange for an advance replacement of these Bill Acceptors, please call CSD Support at (607) 257-3665. Your Support Representative will order the advance replacement, and work with you on installation. You may have to wait for the advance replacement because our supply of Bill Acceptors may be out at other clients’ sites. Quick return of your original Bill Acceptor will assure everyone gets updated in a reasonable amount of time.
As an alternative, you may remove your Bill Acceptor and send it to CBORD for the update. We will perform this service, and ship it back to you the same day we receive it. Call Support at the number above for a Return Authorization Number and guidance through the process.
Please note that the Mars AE2601 and the Coinco MAG 50SA are not interchangeable on CBORD ValuePorts. You must use the same model originally installed on your unit.
